hdpe plastic recyclingHDPE Plastic Recycling

Nexcycle Plastics manufacturers hdpe or high density polyethylene for your extrusion or injection molding process. As a hdpe recycling company, we recover hdpe resins from post industrial scrap for a variety of products made using the extrusion or injection molding processes, i.e., hdpe pipe, bottles, panels, film and sheets. We specialize in HDPE compounds used for pipe and injection molding applications. Our signature product, NPI – 04HDPE Mixed Color is manufactured from recycled high density polyethylene. It may be used for extrusion or molding applications where recycled materials are permitted. NPI – 04HDPE is especially suitable for pipe, pallets and thick sheet applications.

High Density Polyethylene or HDPE
As a major member of the polyolefin family, polyethylene is one of the most widely used polymers of any of the thermoplastic resins. Made from ethylene gas, it can be made from natural gas or obtained as a byproduct of a petroleum refinery. Through addition polymerization, polyethylene can be produced by either low or high pressure processes which are typically divided according to their density. While lower and medium density polyethylene exhibit a short chain molecular structure and a high number of side branches, hdpe forms much longer linear chains with fewer side branches. This gives hdpe a greater of degree of crystallinity than ldpe. In general, the higher the crystallinity or density, the higher the stiffness, hardness, strength and heat resistance will be. As density decreases, impact strength and stress crack resistance increases.

General Properties of HDPE
Depending on its density, polyethylene exhibits certain characteristics that make it extremely popular as a resin or as a material for making products such as pipe, pet bottles and many other containers. HDPE, for instance, is used to make many types of bottles. Unpigmented bottles are translucent, have good barrier properties and stiffness, and are well suited to packaging products with a short shelf life such as milk. Because HDPE has good chemical resistance, it is used for packaging many household and industrial chemicals such as detergents and bleach. Pigmented HDPE bottles have better stress crack resistance than unpigmented HDPE. High density polyethylene is less flexible than the low density polyethylene, but has better physical and chemical properties. For instance, it has

  • Excellent resistance to most solvents.
  • Higher tensile strength compared to other forms of polyethylene.
  • Relatively stiff material with useful temperature capabilities.

Hdpe products are often flexible, corrosion and chemical resistant, lightweight while being extremely tough and durable at the same time. This unique combination of strength and lightweight flexibility make it a popular choice for pipe, bottle and container manufacturers.

Hdpe Applications
Polyethylene not only finds many product applications due to its properties, but also because of the many forms in which it can be produced as a resin. It may be obtained in granules, powders, film, rod, tube and sheet form and molded through such processes as injection molding, fluidized bead coating, blow molding, extrusion, vacuum forming, casting and calendering. Polyethylene is used for many purposes, including: pet bottles for milk, water, juice, cosmetics, shampoo, dish and laundry detergents, and household cleaners. It can be used as bags for groceries and retail purchases, or as cereal box liners. Hdpe is ideal for reusable shipping containers. In addition to packaging, HDPE's major uses are in injection molding applications, extruded pipe and conduit, plastic wood composites, and wire and cable covering.
