injection molding materialsRecycled Polyolefins for Injection Molding

Choosing the right materials for your injection molding process is critical to the success of your project. At NPI Plastic, we understand how it important it is to make an informed decision when it comes to choosing the right resin for your injection molding process. We recycle polyolefins for the injection molding industry. Our products include high and low density polyethylene: NPI – 04HDPE Mixed Color, NPI – 01LL/LD Mixed Color and polypropylene: NPI – 10PP212 Mixed Color. All our products are recycled from plastic post industrial scrap and are ideally suited for the injection molding process.

We can formulate recycled polyethylene and polypropylene blends that perform the same as or similar to prime or virgin resins. Each blend can be custom formulated for your process and to the performance requirements of final product application. If you have any questions about choosing the right resin for your project, please feel welcome to contact us with any questions you might have. Below we have put together a brief buying guide for choosing the right resin for injection molding.

What is Injection Molding
One of the most popular methods of making a plastic product or shaping plastic resins is a process called injection molding. Using large injection molding machines, the molding process involves taking a polymer or a plastic resin from a solid state, heating it and changing it to a semi-liquid state, forming it into something, and cooling it back to a solid state.

In the first stage, a plastic material is put into a hopper, which feeds into a heating chamber. A plunger pushes the plastic through the heating chamber where the material is then softened into a fluid state. At the end of this chamber, the resin is forced into a closed mold. Once the plastic cools to a solid state, the mold opens and the finished product is ejected. This process can be used to create untold types of products including toys, everyday items we use, consumer products, packaging materials and and even automotive parts.

Our Recycled Resin Properties
A major component of our plastic recycling service involves knowing what resins to choose for the injection molding process. Key properties of our recycled plastic as a plastic material for the injection molding process include its melt index, density and izod impact properties. They are key indicators of what the melt strength and flow will be for processing. If you're looking for resins for your injection molding process, then a higher melt index will mean a faster melt flow which helps to fill the mold cavities in shorter period of time.
